Seriously fabulous crib mattress

My daughter slept better on the Naturepedic organic crib mattress 150 the very first time that we put her down on it (and that’s saying something, since she didn’t want to sleep anywhere else but between us on our king size bed). It’s been about 11 months since then, and she sleeps fabulously on this mattress. I can’t recommend it highly enough! I appreciate that it’s organic – and that there are no harmful chemicals – and that it is still fire-resistant. I think the coil system is far more comfortable than the foam (which she had before) – and it still provides extremely firm support. I’m now about to buy a second one for my next baby!

Great Price, Great mattress

Our son had severe eczema and still has very serious allergies. He can’t handle lots of chemicals, and frankly we wouldn’t want to expose him to lots of chemicals anyway, so an organic mattress was important to us. We have been very pleased with the Naturepedic organic crib mattress 150. I appreciated that it wasn’t latex or wool, as those can be highly allergenic. The mattress is high quality, firm, but not a rock, like many other baby mattresses. I’m glad that it has built in dust mite protection as well, as this is also important for a child with lots of allergies. We topped it with a quilted organic cotton mattress pad, which adds a little extra cush, and our son has been enjoying a good night’s sleep on this mattress for almost two years now. We plan to order from Naturepedic again when he moves up to a twin sized mattress. Their prices are excellent for organic mattresses and we’re very pleased with the quality…

When I started researching I was appalled at the level of harmful chemicals in these and all mattresses. I wish I knew before what I know now. We ordered the Naturepedic organic crib mattress 150 based on the high reviews it received. Despite it being really expensive for a mattress that our daughter will probably only use another couple of years, I just couldn’t justify exposing her to the harmful chemicals they use to make standard mattresses, especially given the amount of time she spends on and the close proximity she has with her mattress. If I could offer any advice, it would be to purchase this mattress as their newborn’s crib mattress, and then using it to transition to the toddler bed. It fits perfectly into the 4-in-1 crib and toddler beds measure the same as well. It has NO smell/odor and it’s rather soft so our daughter noticed right away how comfortable it is. I definitely recommend it.

Here are the reported disadvantages of the Naturepedic crib mattress:

• There have been a few reports from parents who discovered that the mattress lost its firmness after only a couple of months of use. However, these seem to be isolated issues and may be due to a bad lot, as when parents facing this issue contacted Naturepedic, they immediately got a replacement mattress that was much better than the original one they’d bought.
• A few Moms felt the mattress was a bit heavier than the standard crib mattress. This is likely due to the density of the organic cotton filling and the orthopedic inner spring which is what provides the firmness in the mattress recommended by doctors.
